The defending league champions Salty Dogs had a 3-2 defeat handed to them by the Yankee 50s in what was described as an “intense and exciting” game at Rhode Island College. Each of the three formidable Yankee hitters; Pacino, Perruzzi, and Kaiser had a RBI a piece adding to the conquest. The Dogs well-respected Gary Raymond had both RBIs for the Dogs. In the sixth and again the seventh, the Dogs stifled the Yankees from scoring twice at home plate by applying the tag on the sliding Yankee following text book cut-off relays from the outfield.

The Yankees earned twelve hits, left 13 on base, and had two errors. The Dogs had five hits, left four on base, and had three errors. Both the Yankees pitching and defense restrained the well-hitting Dogs to five 1-2-3 innings compared to the Yankees hitters submitting to one 1-2-3 inning.

For the Dogs, White went seven and Culp pitched the final two innings. The Yankees’ Navilliat lasted for a complete game.
